Why the same service costs different amounts
- Town: the metro area, Dorado and Rincón sit at the top of the range. Caguas, Ponce and the center at the bottom.
- Lead time: booking a week ahead in high season (December to April) is cheaper than same day.
- Size and access: a walk-up apartment on a high floor, or a house far from the road, costs more.
- Materials and groceries: chefs, handymen and plumbers usually quote labor and materials separately.
- Reviews and experience: a business with many verified reviews charges more and still fills its calendar.
Sales tax, tipping and what to ask before paying
Always ask whether a price is with or without IVU (sales tax). Consumer services carry 11.5%. In the app, the total you see before confirming is what you pay.
Tipping is not required. 10% to 15% is common for cleaners, drivers and guides, and 15% to 20% for a private chef. Handymen and plumbers usually do not expect one.
